Class A misdemeanors are punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine. Examples: assault in the fourth degree, rioting, harassment, sexual abuse in the second degree.
Class B misdemeanors are punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Examples: public intoxication, driving while intoxicated, identity theft.
Class C misdemeanors are punishable by up to 15 days in jail and a $750 fine. Examples: highway littering, animal neglect, refusal to disperse.
Class D misdemeanors are fine-only offenses, with a maximum fine of $500. Examples: driving with a revoked license, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, minor in possession of alcohol.
