It was a day one young man was going to “earn his stripes.”
But to be initiated into a gang, he had to commit cold-blooded murder.
The scheme forever changed four lives, leaving one person dead and sending three men to prison on murder charges.
One July day in 2011, Michael Ford and Antoine Barton drove to the 4700 block of Plover where they met up with Dejuan Blocker and C.R.
Barton, Blocker and C.R. went into an alley. Michael Ford remained in his car.
Barton told Blocker to shoot C.R. in the back but Blocker hesitated. So Barton took the gun and fired.
C.R. was hit and died.
This week, Antoine Barton was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in October.
Previously, Michael Ford was also found guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Dejuan Blocker pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
