A Hockey Shirt and Quick Thinking Help Convict a Phone Thief
October 28, 2014

On a summer day in July 2013, a female victim entered a bar on Washington Avenue.  Suddenly, Rahsaan Mitchell approached her and grabbed for her phone. The victim tried to hold on but Mitchell ripped the phone right out of her hand and darted out the back door. Mitchell, however, is apparently a St. Louis Blues hockey fan and he was wearing a recognizable Blues hockey shirt.

The victim quickly flagged down police officers and gave them a clear description, including the hockey shirt. Within minutes, officers recognized Mitchell as he was still wearing the shirt.

Last week, a jury deliberated for only 40 minutes before convicting Mitchell of second-degree robbery. ACA Brenna Kantrovitz prosecuted the case.

Sentencing is set in the case for November 17, 2014.
