Statement from Circuit Attorney Jennifer M. Joyce regarding Shaw neighborhood shooting
October 09, 2014

Statement from Circuit Attorney Jennifer M. Joyce:

Under the protocol of the new Force Investigation Unit of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the Circuit Attorney’s Office will be reviewing the officer-involved shooting in the Shaw neighborhood upon completion of the Department’s investigation. Openness, transparency and urgency are paramount in this process. Just as we do with every case, we will conduct a thorough, meticulous and independent review of all the facts. I have assembled a team of experienced prosecutors who will be conducting the review.

In addition, I have asked the U.S. Attorney’s Office to cross-designate a federal prosecutor who will work with our team.

Mr. Myer’s pending criminal charges will have absolutely no bearing on this review process. The team of prosecutors will comb through physical evidence, conduct witness interviews and do whatever is necessary to determine the facts and circumstances of the shooting.

We will do whatever it takes to get the truth. It will take some time and I ask for the patience of the community. My thoughts are with the family of Mr. Myers and with all those who work to keep St. Louis safe.
