Rickey Bates has been sentenced for first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action.
On March 4, 2011, Rickey Bates shot A.S. in the head and took U.S. currency from him in the Walnut Park West neighborhood. After he took the currency, Bates returned to A.S. and fired more shots. A.S. died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
On Jan. 30, 2014, a St. Louis jury convicted Bates of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action.
Today, Bates was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the first-degree murder, 30 years for first-degree robbery and 30 years on each count of armed criminal action. All sentences are to run concurrently. St. Louis Circuit Court Judge Margaret M. Neill imposed the sentence.
